Details: Train Fleet Management and station announcement system

System description
The train monitoring and station announcement system consists of two subsystems: the train monitoring subsystem and the station announcement subsystem.

Train monitoring subsystem
The train monitoring subsystem is intended to monitor train positions, their timetables and train driver numbers. It consists of devices built into trains and a central server with a database. After the power is turned on for each train, its device wirelessly sends data on the GPS position, train number, driver number and entered timetable to the central server via the GPRS system. The subsystem has been taken over as much as possible from the train monitoring system from Končar's new electric trains for regional and urban-suburban traffic and low-floor diesel-electric trains for regional traffic.
The subsystem is intended for multi-section trains with two control rooms and has been expanded so that each of the two control rooms has its own console for entering the train number, timetable and driver number. At one point, only one of the two existing consoles is active (the one in the active control room where the driver is located).

Station announcement subsystem
The station announcement subsystem is intended for informing passengers inside the train and is completely taken over from the station announcement system from Končar's new electric and regional suburban electric trains and low-floor diesel-electric trains for regional traffic. The system also allows passengers to play music content via the USB interface of the host computer. It is a module for announcing stations, type: RNS-1 which is located in the central audio amplifier, type: EK POV-6. These two systems are fully compatible which means that they have the same way of entering new timetables, and that the base GPS position of the stations is completely the same. The voice notification subsystem can control existing speakers via two 100V 2 x 100 W output lines. The text notification subsystem can control external side-sided (4), external front-sided (2) and internal double-sided (8) information displays. Internal two-sided information screens will be developed within the company Elektrokem d.o.o. and will be managed using RS485 interfaces and protocols that are fully compatible with the existing screens of TEO Belišće d.o.o.

Common components of the subsystem
In order to avoid unnecessary duplication of assemblies and complication of the mode of operation, the subsystems share all the necessary software and hardware components. This is primarily a GPS position required for both subsystems and GPRS functionality now used only by the train tracking system, which should be used in the future for wireless timetable upgrades. The power supply of all components of both subsystems is 24VDC.

The work of two trains in tandem
The system also allows two trains to operate in tandem. Working in tandem actually means that at one point only one of the four existing consoles is active. In addition, both trains share the same timetable and the same driver number. Station announcements, as in the new Končar trains, work in each train completely autonomously and are not connected. The connection between the trains was performed using the RS485 interface (two pairs).
